MKH Productions’ inaugural hula challenge featured four hālau putting their “Pride On The Line.” A wildly enthusiastic audience gave their judgement on who reigned best in show!

Oakland, CA - Kumu Hula Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu

Kumu hula Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu's dancers have repeatedly taken home honors in major hula competitions on the West Coast and in Hawai‘i. The kāne have competed in the Merrie Monarch Hula Competition in Hilo, Hawai‘i, and have taken multiple awards at the Iā ‘Oe E Ka Lā Festival in Pleasanton, California. With the Academy of Hawaiian Arts professional team and MKH Productions, they have completed two sold-out "hula tours" of Japan.

Hālau Nā Pualehua i ka Ua Noe
Chino Hills, CA - Kumu Hula Keoni Chang

Since he opened his hālau in 2003, Kumu Keoni Chang has won several trophies at various hula competitions. His California hālau recently garnered the coveted 2007 George Na‘ope Perpetual Award for overall score at the Kāne Hula Festival held in Modesto. He has participated in the Mai Kahiki Mai Hula Competition, Iā ‘Oe E Ka Lā Festival, George Na‘ope Kane Hula Festival, and E Hula Mau. Since 2003, Kumu Keoni has earned over 40 awards as kumu hula.

Ke ‘Ala ‘O Kamailelauli‘ili‘i & Manawaiopuna
Federal Way, WA - Kumu Hula Kamaile Hamada

The first competition for Hālau Ke‘ala O Kamailelauli‘ili‘i and Manawaiopuna was the George Na‘ope Northwest Hula Competition in 1999, where they were award winners in the categories of Kahiko, ‘Auana, and ‘Olelo Hawai‘i (Hawaiian language). Since then the hālau has also garnered awards at the E Hula Mau hula competition.

Hālau Hula a Kawika Lāua ‘O Leilani
Diamond Bar, CA - Kumu Hula Kawika & Leinani Viloria

Hālau Hula A Kawika Lāua ‘O Leinani has placed at the Iā ‘Oe E Ka Lā and E Hula Mau competitions. They have dazzled audiences at venues such as the Hawaiian Hilton Village in O‘ahu, the Donny and Marie Show, the Disney Company, Jet Propulsion Labs, the House of Blues, the Hollywood Bowl (with Keali‘i Reichel), and the Las Vegas Fremont Experience. They have also toured with the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau throughout Southern California and Europe.
